This paper explores the history of language learning and how it can help researchers, teachers, and students understand the various factors that impact language learning activities. The author delves into their own English language learning history, discussing challenges faced and strategies used to overcome them and become more autonomous in their learning. Three main themes emerge from the analysis: motivational shifts and goal-setting theory, learning beliefs and goal setting theory, and the relationship between learning strategy use and teachers' influence.
